Grazing the Corners

With the passing of 9/11 comes the understanding that it remains a constant in the hearts and minds of many people. If the strength of the suvivors and loved ones of those who survived could be bottled I think we would finally see some light of love and acceptance in the eyes and hearts of peoples across the globe. In lieu of that we should shake a hand and look into the eyes of someone new every day.

  • Aunt Shirley, I realized the other day while putting up the American Flag outside Dragon Gym on the 11th that no matter what the policies of the current or future governments that the flag will always represent the same things. The stars- the 50 states, 13 stripes-13 original colonies, Red-Hardiness & Valor, White-purity & innocence, Blue- Justice & Vigilance.
That day the colors seemed a little brighter.

  • Aunt Shirl,
The other day I read your blog here and left you my reply above. here is another. I read it again on Saturday then went out to Philadelphia in the evening. I was jammed into a small corner of an overcrowded bar and decided that I needed some air so I went outside. I sat down on the street and across from me was a homeless man on the curb. At that point I remembered your message. "In lieu of that we should shake a hand and look into the eyes of someone new everyday." I approched the man and shook his hand. 3 people outside of the bar looked at me as if I was crazy. I sat down next to him and asked him how he got to where he was. He replied simply "I walked here young man." Then after all my questions I learned the struggle and tribulation, dissapointment and misguidance that this one man had experienced. I became instantly compassionate and wanted to help in some way. I also learned that he was a Vietnam Veteran who served in action 3 times longer than he was supposed to. I witnessed the physical effects of Agent Orange on his legs and the emotional effects of battle and disregard. At the end of our 1 hr conversation he thanked me for spending the time with him and for taking the time to try and understand. I thank you Aunt Shirley for giving me the light and spark for my actions that night. It was extremely emotional for me even as I reflect on it as I write this. As Bob says "One Love, God dont know a mans color, money or status, God only know a mans heart." One Love.
    Thanks! Love you.
